Photographer Interview ::: Shannon Hollman

Today I have a fabulous photographer friend that I want to share with you. Her name is Shannon and she is so kind, talented and one of the sweetest people! Her work is lovely and it seems so colorful, full of life and real. I love her style and point of view! Shannon is a great inspiration to others out there and I hope you take the time to browse her work. She is very consistent and you can tell she knows how to work it with the camera:)

Kalispell Montana : Shannon Hollman : Website Blog

1a. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m shannon:)I’m am a mom and a photographer…along with other things. I think i’m a pretty funny gal to be around,  although some may tell you differently. ha!
I like to have fun, be happy and do what I love.
1b. How long have you been a professional photographer?
I have been at it full time for about 3.5 years and I am loving every second of it!!

2. What do you photograph most of the time?
High school seniors, weddings/engagements and newborns are all I photograph. Just this year I stopped photographing children and families. For me, personally, it was one of the best
decisions I made for my business.

3. If you could photograph anything you wanted, for yourself and creativity, what would it be?
I LOVE photographing girls. I think it’s because I am surrounded by boys and everything non-girly. So when I get the chances to photograph girls, it’s something that i honestly love to do.
oh, and maybe hop a plane to venice, but i don’t know how realistic that is:)

4. How do you find inspiration?
Light, light, light. It’s the one thing that gets my head spinning and blood pumping. When I look at other photographs, magazines, pinterst…whatever it may be, I love looking at the stuff, but it really doesn’t make me want to run out and do something amazing. BUT when I see light, find light, use light…THAT is what makes me jump up and down and be inspired.

5. What do you think makes a photographer successful in this industry?
I think it’s the whole package. I think your photographs need to be beautiful, they need to be a piece of you…..I also think that you need to have that connection with your clients and the personality that makes them not only fall in love with your work, but fall in love with you. Haha. I may be still working on that one;)

6. If you could offer your two cents on business advice, what would it be?
The business end is something I feel like I’m the last person to be giving advice on, but I will say this- do what works for YOU. There are so many people out there that say do this, do that, charge this, charge that….at the end of the day, you need to do what works best for you, your business and your family. I don’t get caught up in what others are or aren’t doing. I have found that if I am happy with where I am and what i’m doing, then I’m okay.
7. What body and lenses do you use most or are your favorite?
I use canon 5d classics. I couldn’t live without them!!! (Yes, I have a mark II and I call it a $2000 paperweight. Not a fan!)
Favorite lenses are without a doubt the 50mm and 85mm. I would wrap them up and blankets and sleep with them if I could….but that would be just plain weird!!:)
